At Gainsborough Nursery School, we provide high-quality early education for children aged 2, 3 and 4 years old. Our experienced staff team create a nurturing, playful and stimulating environment where children can explore, make friends and develop confidence and independence.

We offer a flexible mix of funded and paid sessions, wraparound care during term-time  to support the needs of families.

Our Nursery Classes

Children learn and play within age-appropriate groups, supported by qualified teachers and experienced early years practitioners.

  • Yellow Class (Two-Year-Olds)
A nurturing, calm and language-rich environment designed to support early communication, social development, curiosity and independence.
  • Green Class (Two to Three-Year-Olds)
Children build confidence in early learning routines, explore new skills and begin taking part in small group activities.
  • Blue Class (Pre-School Three-Four-Year-Olds)
Children develop school readiness through problem-solving, early literacy and maths, turn-taking, focus and independence.

Session Times

We offer flexible attendance patterns across the week (subject to availability):

  • Morning session: 8:30am – 11:30am
  • Full-day:8.30am  – 2.30pm

Children staying for a full day will need to bring a packed lunch. We encourage healthy choices and support children to develop positive mealtime habits.

To support working families, we offer:

  • Breakfast Club: 7.30am – 8:30am
  • After School Club: 2.30pm – 5.15pm

Wraparound care is available for all children attending Gainsborough Nursery School and can be booked regularly or on an ad-hoc basis (subject to space).

Families can use their Government funding for any of these sessions with no additional charges.

Please note that as we are a school we are only open during the term time and we close during school holidays.

Our Weekly Learning Rhythm & Attendance

At our maintained nursery school, we plan our learning on a weekly cycle. This helps children enjoy a wide range of experiences — from developing early literacy and maths skills to building confidence, independence and friendships.

We know family life can be busy, and we are proud to offer a flexible attendance pattern to support our community. However, we want to be open with families about what works best for children’s learning and development.

To help your child get the most from nursery, we recommend:

  • 15-hour children: Attending every morning, Monday–Friday
  • 30-hour children: Attending 8:30am – 2:30pm every day

Children who attend every day often:

⭐ Experience the full range of the week’s learning activities
⭐ Build strong, secure friendships with their peers
⭐ Feel part of the group and more confident in routines
⭐ Make greater progress in communication, social skills and independence
⭐ Settle more quickly and feel more emotionally secure
⭐ Enjoy a consistent pattern that supports school readiness

Of course, if you need to use your hours more flexibly, that’s absolutely fine — we understand every family is different. We simply want to let you know that because our planning runs weekly, children who attend fewer days might miss some planned activities or experiences.

Funding and Fees

Many families qualify for funded early education. We offer:

  • 15 hours funded childcare for all 3– and 4-year-olds
  • 30 hours funded childcare for eligible working families
  • Funded places for eligible 2-year-olds
  • Additional paid hours if needed

Funding usually begins the term after your child turns two or three. If you are unsure about what you are entitled to, we are happy to help you check.

Any additional hours over your 15 or 30 hour funding are charged at £6.50
